Hatch Consultancy is run by Chris Pearce who has over 25 years' experience in the asbestos consultancy industry. Chris was previously a director at a leading nationwide asbestos consultancy where he held various directorships including Technical Director, Projects Director and Survey Director.

Chris is CCP qualified and has a thorough understanding of asbestos quality systems, and specialises in all aspects of asbestos surveying and management of asbestos. He says: although the asbestos industry is the second most heavily legislated industry, the quality of asbestos consultancies and their consultants varies enormously.
Asbestos may be part of any commercial or domestic building which was built or refurbished before the year 2000. If you are concerned that your property may contain asbestos please contact Hatch Consultancy for further advice. Do not try to repair or remove any asbestos materials yourself. You should seek advice from an approved asbestos consultant.
In practice the changes are fairly limited. They mean that some types of non-licensed work with asbestos now have additional requirements, i.e. notification of work, medical surveillance and record keeping. All other requirements remain unchanged. If existing asbestos containing materials are in good condition and are not likely to be damaged, they may be left in place; their condition monitored and managed to ensure they are not disturbed.
Two ACOPs, L127 (The management of asbestos in non-domestic premises) and L143 (Work with materials containing asbestos) have been consolidated into this single revised ACOP - L143 Managing and working with asbestos. The document provides guidance for employers about work which disturbs, or is likely to disturb asbestos, asbestos sampling and laboratory analysis.
Asbestos is responsible for over 4500 deaths every year. Younger people, if routinely exposed to asbestos fibres over time, are at greater risk of developing asbestos-related disease than older workers. This is due to the time it takes for the body to develop symptoms after exposure to asbestos (latency).
