Gate Safe was set up in 2010, in the wake of the tragic deaths of two children crushed by automated gates, in separate accidents. The charity's aim is simple - to put a stop to any further accidents or fatalities occurring as a result of an unsafe electric gate or barrier installation. Gate Safe is committed to promoting an improved understanding of the legislation and standards pertaining to automated gates and offers further comprehensive guidance to encourage best practice.
Gate Safe is the natural industry authority on automated gate safety, delivering practical information and training (in plain English and minus the technical jargon) to the broad range of professionals associated with gate installations, as well as providing helpful advice to gate owners and the general public.

The Hub is a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) online tool which has been specifically designed by Gate Safe to improve the running of a gate and barrier installation business. The Hub seamlessly manages the flow of work to keep you on track with 'ticking all of the boxes' to deliver a compliant electric gate by producing the required risk assessments, CE declaration and customer handover pack.
Anyone involved in the installation of a powered gate (whether it is a swing or sliding gate, a rising arm barrier, a bi folding or telescopic sliding gate) must ensure it complies with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. In order to achieve compliance the gate should have undergone a full risk assessment.
It is estimated that nearly 300,000 new automated gates are being installed every year, in a wide range of settings, including private residences, housing developments, commercial properties and schools / nurseries & education centres. Combine this with the number of existing gates in the field and it is likely that there are currently in excess of 3 million gates in existence.
Responsibility for the health and safety of pupils and staff lies with the employer. This is primarily delegated to the Headteacher and the school's management team who must take reasonable steps to ensure that risks are effectively managed.
Automated gates offer an effective solution to managing access control on a school site, safely containing the children during standard hours, but also restricting the flow of additional visitor traffic to protect pupils and staff.

We booked some of our engineers on a course with Gate Safe some time ago as we always promote best practice across the industry and we strive to keep our engineers up to date on the latest safety and legislation available.
This week we had an urgent installation come in from the NHS to design, install and commission a new covid vaccination center within two weeks !!
We called Gate Safe who point blank refused to reschedule our course and stated we would have to pay in fullagain if we couldn't attend for any reason.
Hardly our fault and hardly what you would expect from an organisation promoting
