Studies consistently show that acupuncture is as effective as, or more effective than medication for anxiety and depression, without the harmful side effects. Many people use acupuncture to avoid the need for antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication. Others find that their medication is more effective when combined with acupuncture, and that acupuncture reduces its negative side-effects.
Many patients use acupuncture to reduce their reliace on painkilling medication. Acupuncture needles stimulate nerves in muscles and other tissues, sending signals to the brain that cause it to release chemicals such as endorphins. These chemicals are powerful and natural painkillers. Acupuncture is very effective for migraines and headaches.
A couple's fertility depends on many factors, such as constitution, age, lifestyle, diet and stress levels. If there is no diagnosed reason for infertility (male or female), acupuncture aims to strengthen both partners' constitution and create a harmonious environment for conception. Your acupuncturist will discuss lifestyle changes with you that may enhance your fertility.
Our patients come to us with a variety of mild and severe pregnancy-related symptoms, including tiredness, insomnia, anxiety and depression, nausea and vomiting, heartburn, constipation, uterine bleeding and threatened miscarriage, itching, sinusitis, varicose veins, haemorrhoids, vulval varicosities, recurrent urinary tract infections, rib, back and neck pain, pubic symphysis dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, and leg cramps.
Your practitioner may use other Chinese medical techniques in conjunction with acupuncture. What we eat can have a big impact on our health, so Chinese nutritional advice may form part of your treatment plan. Your practitioner may also recommend taking certain dietary supplements or gentle herbal remedies.
