Since 2004, providing underwater noise impact assessment and marine mammal risk mitigation services to all marine industries worldwide. Incorporated originally in 2004, OSC is a privately-owned international marine science company that specialises in the collection, analysis, and assessment of underwater noise and its impact on marine mammals and other wildlife.

We provide marine consultancy services during different stages of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for the offshore energy (oil & gas, renewables, etc.), construction, fisheries, and defence sectors. OSC provide marine services to many sectors including windfarms, decommissioning, and seismic.

OSC provides Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs) for myriad marine industries including: seismic exploration, pile driving, drilling, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), scientific research, etc. Our trained, qualified, and experienced MMOs assist in reducing impact of operations on the marine environment without breaching environmental protocols and regulations to ensure that marine industrial operations are compliant with mitigation guidelines.

Towed hydrophone arrays provide good spatial coverage, but only a snapshot in time of a species' occurrence in a particular area, and are required when using Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) for real-time mitigation during industrial activities. OSC can cater for all your Passive Acoustic Monitoring needs.
The term ADD refers to a variety of active, acoustic deterrent devices used to discourage marine mammals from approaching an area where either anthropogenic noise e.g. Pingers are smaller and less powerful than sea scarers. Collectively, these are also called Acoustic Mitigation Devices (AMDs) or Acoustic Harassment Devices (AHDs).
Desk-based noise-propagation modelling is an economical method used assess potential impacts of a man made (anthropogenic) noise source on sensitive or protected species. Sound propagation varies between locations due to the complexity of underwater environments affected by, inter alia, geographic, bathymetric, oceanographic, and climatic conditions.
