Hughes Rugs specialise in providing premier quality oriental and tribal rugs, as well as carpets, to the UK market. Based in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, we are very much a traditional family business. Stephen Hughes and wife Marie have run the company for over 25 years, following in the footsteps of Stephen's father and grandfather.
As the third generation to be involved with oriental carpets, today they draw on more than 75 years of accumulated knowledge and experience. Hughes Rugs import directly from the foremost carpet-producing countries, including Persian, Turkey, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and China. Our ethically-sourced items are hand-made by skilled weavers living in nomadic, tribal or village communities.

Services
Hughes Rugs specialise in supplying high-quality oriental and tribal floor coverings from the traditional carpet-weaving countries, including Persian, Turkey, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and China. All of our rugs, runners and carpets are hand-woven, and they're mainly produced by families in nomadic, tribal or village communities.
With such a large range of styles, designs and colours, our collections have something to suit nearly every home. And don't forget that with our home selection service, you can see the rugs actually in your room, taking all the guesswork out of choosing. We think that our oriental and tribal rugs are more than just floor coverings.
Kilims are pileless floor coverings produced by flat-weaving. Although kilims have been produced for centuries, until relatively recently they were produced almost exclusively for domestic use. Unlike pile carpets, which were widely exported, the designs have therefore been insulated from Western influence.
Our fine Persian carpets are made on intricate looms and come from the ancient Persian cities of Tabriz, Isfahan, Nain and Kashan. They are manufactured with a higher knot density than other carpets, using finer wool and sometimes silk. Patterns consist mainly of beautifully designed medallions and floral all-over patterns, and sometimes the proud makers will weave their name into the design.
Our Kashgai and Shiraz carpets are sourced from the city of Shiraz, located in the Fars Provence in what was once the Persian empire. They are crafted by the Kashgai nomads who live in the region. The Kashgai is the largest nomadic tribe in the area and maintain their traditional migrations, complete with families, flocks, tents and other belongings.

We are delighted! A superb service from an experienced, knowledgeable and skilful company. Thirty plus years of dirt, wear and tear were erased through their cleaning process and repair of fringes. Our rugs were returned to display their original bright and vibrant colours. All at Hughes Rugs executed a superb job, and we will use them again (well before another 30 years has passed!). Thank you to all the team in Royal Wootton Bassett.

I have been buying wonderful rugs from Stephen for over 15 years. He and his wife Marie are the epitome of a proper family business. Nothing is too much trouble whether it’s allowing you to try out a rug, moving furniture around or even dismantling chairs.
I can vouch for the fact that the rugs are super high quality as they are still as thick and lush as they were when I first bought them. Plus Stephen has been brilliant about really listening to what we like and want and has never failed to find the exact colour, size and pattern that complimented the relevant room perfectly.
