The Power Pack is the Hydraulic power unit (HPU) used in any powered steering system as the prime mover for the system. It delivers oil to the system without the need for human effort. The Power Pack selection will depend on the type of steering controls required and the hydraulic circuits necessary to provide delivery of the control to the steering actuators.
We have a standard range of Actuators but like many of our products these can be modified to suit customer requirements. The numbers after the KS, R and J indicate the torque at 55 Bar(approx 800 PSI) working pressure. If the torque exceeds the listed actuators, you can either adjust pressures to increase capability of each actuator or we can design a cylinder to suit your needs.
The Tiller connects to the rudder stock with a split boss or a solid boss (for a Tapered Rudder Stock) and a hydraulic actuator is connected at the end of the tiller, to provide sufficient torque to turn the rudder through the desired angle. To design the Tiller, Wills Ridley do calculations to make sure that the Tiller radius creates enough leverage at the required angle.
