Services
Timber Fire & Stone Ltd (TFS Wood Stoves) was established in 1998 by Managing Director Ian Simpson. Ian started as a fireplace fitter and worked for some of the most prestigious fireplace companies in London specialising in stone mantelpieces. We opened our first shop in Midhurst selling just fireplaces but as interest in wood burners increased we diversified and now our business is predominantly wood burners!
At TFS we specialise in supplying, installing and servicing wood burning stoves and fireplaces to domestic customers. We have worked in all kinds of properties including listed buildings and new builds and we're used to working in sensitive conservation areas. We also work closely with architects, planning officers, interior designers, property developers and country estate managers.
Heating with wood is not only environmentally friendly, but can also make good economic sense. Timber for fuel is typically up to 30% cheaper than oil or gas and with recent price rises in both, the savings are only likely to increase. An additional environmental benefit is that timber is usually sourced locally, so transport miles and associated emissions are kept to a minimum.
Firewood is environmentally friendly because using it results in virtually no 'fossil' carbon dioxide being added to our present environment and thus helps minimise the effects of climate change as compared to using gas, oil or coal. Wood is known as a carbon neutral fuel, as a tree grows it gradually captures CO2 from the atmosphere and when it rots or is burned the same amount of CO2 is released.
Yes you can by installing what are known as 'exempt appliances' which means that they have undergone rigorous testing to ensure that they demonstrate particularly clean burning combustion. In the UK suitable models have been granted exemption from the regulations by the government through DEFRA but this is due to be superseded by a new initiative called Ecodesign.
